Big hair ladies

It’s my birthday on Saturday. I’ll be 40. Where did the time go?

When I was younger, I thought of 20’s as being an adult. You know, having a job, paying bills, getting married and having kids. People in their 40’s were already old. Now I’m turning 40 and I feel like I might just got out of my teens.

You know how when you’re young, you depend on your parents to take care of adult things. And that somewhat stretches into adulthood. Depends on the relationship you have with your parents. It’s just easier for moms to make your appointments and stuff.

It was the time when I had to make an appointment with my kid’s pediatrician that I realized I’m the mom now. From now on, I’ll be the one making appointments for my kid. It hit me then that I’m an adult now. Yeah, I was almost 40 when I realized that.

Another time I had to give myself a pep talk. I don’t remember what exactly happened but I remember saying to myself, "Natasha, you’re almost 40, you’re an adult, act like it. You can’t let people treat you like you’re a teenager." I have to remind myself that now and again and stand up for myself.

That's why I waited to have a kid because I didn't feel like an adult capable of raising a child.

When was it that you felt like an adult?

P.S. This post was scheduled but I thought I'd let you know that my husband died yesterday of heart failure.

Curvy Ladies

These ladies were made for a Curvy Ladies swap over at ATCsforAll forum. I always draw skinny girls, so this was a lovely change.

We had a holiday yesterday in honor of culture and most museums, galleries and such have free entrance on this day. We took this opportunity and went to visit Lipica stud farm. Of course horses are a hit with the kid. Any animal is. He has ridden ponies twice before and we thought he'll get to ride again but the rides were all sold until the afternoon, so we passed this time.

We enjoyed seeing the Lipizzaner horses, museums and exhibitions. I was actually surprised when the kid got excited about a painting exhibition. The gallery was covered from ceiling to (almost) floor with paintings. Mostly colorful abstracts and he loved it.

When we got home, he played with his toy horse for the rest of the day. We were shown how to saddle a horse and he tried to saddle his toy horse by himself.

Fox and butterfly RR

I started this Round Robin with a fox, MissM added a butterfly and IamWhatonearth finished with the background.

It's my boy's 3rd Birthday today. He got some birthday money from my grandmother, his great grandmother and we're taking him shopping for a micro scooter. I think that's how it's called in English.

Also, I made it a tradition to have his photos professionally taken on his birthday. This year though it's not going as planned. The photographer I set up the shoot with stopped responding to my e-mails and it was nerve wracking. Especially since I already paid for the session. It turned out, she scammed someone else, too, so I lost hope of having the photo session tomorrow.

I guess I'll have to improvise and do something myself. It's hard though when they're this age. For Christmas photo shoot I got one good picture out of 40 that I managed to make before he lost interest.

Do you have any birthday traditions?
