Dogs

I'm sorry I'm late with my post, I totally thought today was Thursday. It must be a glitch in my brain.
Randomness:
  • my pooch still has a hot spot on her leg and it's not healing the way it should
  • dad is not doing good. Pozitive vibes are still very much appreciated.
  • I'm painting again. You should get some more exciting eye candy that is not ATC (artist trading cards) soon

Just animals

I would appreciate some positive vibes. My dad's gallbladder ruptured last Friday and he had to have an emergency surgery. Unfortunately things got complicated and he had to have another surgery on Tuesday because the gallbladder fluid got in his lungs which caused pneumonia. He has been in critical condition ever since and needs help with breathing. He regained some consciousness yesterday though, but the doctors are not sure yet how soon he'll recover.

Thank you for your prayers and good thoughts.

characters from TV shows

Some of the characters I was asked to draw. YouTube sensation Miranda Sings, Jasmine Garza from TV show Continuum and Hannibal from TV show Hannibal.

I'm happy to report I did not pee my pants last week zip-lining. :) I did close my eyes in the beginning because I felt a bit overwhelmed with the speed of it. It was a fun thing to do.

I realized though that I'm not as daring as I used to be. I was always the one to try all the rides in the amusement parks. No ride scared me until I tried the free fall. That one was the first time I had to close my eyes at the beginning because I got overwhelmed.

Although I never got to try it, I wanted to go bungee jumping and skydiving but the older I get the less appealing it is to me. I'm sure I'll never go bungee jumping because of all the accidents I've heard about over the time but I might still go skydiving. Who knows?!

What's the most daring thing you've done so far? What's on your bucket list?

P.S. I opened a SHOP here on my blog. I'm selling some of my "big hair ladies" paintings. Go and check them out! :)

Toadstoools

Randomness:
  • Allergies suck! My eyes itch and I'm sneezing like crazy.
  • The kid caught a cold or something. His nose is running and he threw up one night.
  • Big pooch developed a hot spot due to allergies as well and it's taking it's sweet time to heal. She's still wearing that protective collar so she doesn't lick it. It's been 3 weeks now that she has it on.
  • On a positive note, I'm going zip-lining today with my friend. I'll let you know, if I peed my pants in the process of it. :)
P.S. I opened a SHOP here on my blog. I'm selling some of my "big hair ladies" paintings. Go and check them out! :)

Tim Burton Characters

I skipped last week's post because it was a hard week for me emotionally. I felt alone and overwhelmed. I don't know where my life is heading. I don't know what I'm doing. But don't worry, I had a good cry and I'm taking it one day at a time.

P.S. I opened a SHOP here on my blog. I'm selling some of my "big hair ladies" paintings. Go and check them out! :)

Elephants

Last week, I held on to doorframe (on the side where the hinges are) while putting on my shoes and the kid decided to close the door with my fingers in them. I can’t remember the last time I hurt my fingers in this way. It was so painful I felt sick.

My middle finger and ring finger are injured the most, pinky hurts but doesn’t have any visible injuries. I just hope my fingernails don’t fall off. I hear that can happen but I’ve never experienced it myself even though my fingers got caught in doors many times when I was a kid.

A couple of days later I stubbed my little toe while chasing my kid around the kitchen. These injuries remind me of my childhood and it feels weird that they're happening to me now.

P.S. I opened a SHOP here on my blog. I'm selling some of my "big hair ladies" paintings. Go and check them out! :)

Easter chicks and bunnies RR

Since it's Easter soon, I thought this bunny and chick round robin set of cards were appropriate for the occasion. Round robin cards are a set of three cards that three different artists work on and then each keeps a card when it's finished.

BexMadeMe started the set with the left bunny, IamWhatonearth added the right chick and I finished with the right bunny and left chick.

This brings me to a dream I had back in January. It stuck with me for two reasons. Somewhere along the line there was a train I was riding and I remember it because I have trains a lot in my dreams lately. There are different occasions but I'm always riding a train.

The other thing was three eggs that hatched a bunny. Not a chick, a bunny. Bunnies were already grown, not quite adults but already furry and ready to be on their own.

The third egg was a bit dented and while I was holding it in my hand, it broke and out came a furry bunny. But this one was not as big as the other two. You could tell, he was premature but nonetheless he wasn't in any danger of dying.

According to dream interpretation it symbolizes new beginnings and good luck.

P.S. I opened a SHOP here on my blog. I'm selling some of my "big hair ladies" paintings. Go and check them out! :)

Ladies

Randomness:
  • My pooch had an operation last week. I talked about why HERE. Yesterday I took her to remove stitches but half of the cut wasn't healed properly, so she still has half of stitches left until it heals. The cut is 18 cm (7") long.
  • We had another bout of snow last Sunday. It's getting a bit annoying now. There's always heavier snowfall where I live and the last one hasn't even melted yet and here we are with yet another 5 inches.
  • It's windy now. Not the nice spring breeze but full on wind.
  • Cars are fixed ... for now. We had to take both of our cars to the shop in the past 7 days but there was stuff they couldn't fix, so we're making do.
  • The little pooch got her long awaited haircut yesterday. It's only when she gets her fur buzzed off it's when I can see how fat she's gotten. She's not the only one. All our dogs are fat because my mom shows them love by giving them abundance of unnecessary treats.
  • I'm still dealing with paperwork. It's annoying but ... life goes on.

Handprint flower

Last week was International Women's day. Usually I gift my mom flowers but I didn't have time to buy any, so the kid and I made a greeting card for her. Hand prints and fingerprints are useful at this age. It's personal and something you want to keep as a memory. He helped with the brush strokes as well.
This one though is a garden fairy ATC. I thought I'd showcase them together since it's about flowers.

Kitten

This week I had some drama with one of my dogs. I noticed Karma had a huge lump on her hind leg and took her to the vet's.

First, the vet thought it was hernia, and then when she did the ultrasound she said it’s probably bone cancer. When she took the x-rays, she said it was just a lump under her skin and they need to make a biopsy to see what it was. When she did the biopsy, it turned out it was just fat. The final results will come in on Wednesday but they still want to operate on her because the lump is really huge. And there I was thinking I’ll need to euthanize her or cut off her leg.

I don't think I mentioned it before because of all that was going on with my husband's death, but one of my cats, Bolha died on the morning of my husband's funeral. She was going to be 14 years old this year and she had kidney failure.

She stopped eating and I took her to the vet on Friday. They gave her an IV and did some tests that showed kidney failure. They couldn't take her in over the weekend, so I went for another IV with her on Saturday and on Monday I left her there so they could supervise her. In the evening the vet called to tell me she doesn't think the cat will make it through the night. And she didn't.

Birds

I'm not particularly fond of drawing birds but here they are because people seem to like them.
It's been proper winter this week. Snowing every day and being way too cold for my liking. Sun came out now and again and it was lovely but the winds kind of spoiled the mood of it all.

I wish I could just stay inside all day and do nothing but I had to take care of papers and had to drive to town literally every day this week. The kid also was a handful, if he was stuck inside for too long. Because of the cold, he only went out for half an hour or so but nevertheless, he was out in fresh air.

How was your week?

Balloons RR

This Round Robin is from 2015 actually and I had it saved on the blog as draft but somehow forgot to publish it. But here it is today.

I started the set with the balloons, DeepDarkHana added the sky and Tandy finished it with the building.

Here's a story for you featuring balloons and my kid. We went shopping one day last December and while going back to the car the wind picked up and almost blew away bread out of the shopping cart. At the same time, it blew away the kid’s balloon he was holding. He started screaming and crying and I didn’t know why because he never reacted like that before. I grabbed the kid’s arm to keep him from running under a car while holding the shopping cart because it was running sideways. Mom was holding onto bread with one hand while pushing the cart and couldn’t handle the whole thing.

An older gentleman heard the kid crying and saw the balloon so he started chasing it. Unfortunately, it went under a parked car and he helped me figure out how to get it out. I was looking for something like a stick when three elderly ladies that owned the car came back. One of them had just bought an umbrella and lend it to me so I could get the balloon out from under the car.

The whole time I had my mom hold onto the crying and screaming kid, so he wouldn’t get run over. When everything was over, one of the ladies said she thought something horrible happened because of all the commotion the kid was causing. No, just a runaway balloon and a (then still) 2 year old. That’s all.

P.S. Thank you for the condolences and birthday wishes.

Big hair ladies

It’s my birthday on Saturday. I’ll be 40. Where did the time go?

When I was younger, I thought of 20’s as being an adult. You know, having a job, paying bills, getting married and having kids. People in their 40’s were already old. Now I’m turning 40 and I feel like I might just got out of my teens.

You know how when you’re young, you depend on your parents to take care of adult things. And that somewhat stretches into adulthood. Depends on the relationship you have with your parents. It’s just easier for moms to make your appointments and stuff.

It was the time when I had to make an appointment with my kid’s pediatrician that I realized I’m the mom now. From now on, I’ll be the one making appointments for my kid. It hit me then that I’m an adult now. Yeah, I was almost 40 when I realized that.

Another time I had to give myself a pep talk. I don’t remember what exactly happened but I remember saying to myself, "Natasha, you’re almost 40, you’re an adult, act like it. You can’t let people treat you like you’re a teenager." I have to remind myself that now and again and stand up for myself.

That's why I waited to have a kid because I didn't feel like an adult capable of raising a child.

When was it that you felt like an adult?

P.S. This post was scheduled but I thought I'd let you know that my husband died yesterday of heart failure.

Curvy Ladies

These ladies were made for a Curvy Ladies swap over at ATCsforAll forum. I always draw skinny girls, so this was a lovely change.

We had a holiday yesterday in honor of culture and most museums, galleries and such have free entrance on this day. We took this opportunity and went to visit Lipica stud farm. Of course horses are a hit with the kid. Any animal is. He has ridden ponies twice before and we thought he'll get to ride again but the rides were all sold until the afternoon, so we passed this time.

We enjoyed seeing the Lipizzaner horses, museums and exhibitions. I was actually surprised when the kid got excited about a painting exhibition. The gallery was covered from ceiling to (almost) floor with paintings. Mostly colorful abstracts and he loved it.

When we got home, he played with his toy horse for the rest of the day. We were shown how to saddle a horse and he tried to saddle his toy horse by himself.

Fox and butterfly RR

I started this Round Robin with a fox, MissM added a butterfly and IamWhatonearth finished with the background.

It's my boy's 3rd Birthday today. He got some birthday money from my grandmother, his great grandmother and we're taking him shopping for a micro scooter. I think that's how it's called in English.

Also, I made it a tradition to have his photos professionally taken on his birthday. This year though it's not going as planned. The photographer I set up the shoot with stopped responding to my e-mails and it was nerve wracking. Especially since I already paid for the session. It turned out, she scammed someone else, too, so I lost hope of having the photo session tomorrow.

I guess I'll have to improvise and do something myself. It's hard though when they're this age. For Christmas photo shoot I got one good picture out of 40 that I managed to make before he lost interest.

Do you have any birthday traditions?

Wizard of Oz

When was the last time you've seen Wizard of Oz? I honestly can't recall. It must've been in elementary school. I never read the book though.

It's funny how some things stay in your memory and others don't. In researching to make these ATCs for a swap, I can't recall I ever saw the Jack Pumpkinhead character. In the middle it's Glinda the good witch and of course Dorothy and Toto.

I remember watching a documentary or something where it showed Judy Garland behind the scenes as Dorothy and how extra she had to act to satisfy director's vision. I guess that's an evolution of movies. I can't watch even my favorite movies from 20 years ago because the acting is so bad. It's all more realistic these days.

Steampunk Round Robin

Round Robin is a set of 3 cards which one artist starts, send to another to add something to the set and then sends to the third artist to finish everything. Each artist keeps a card that's why there are 3 in a set.

Linda4atc started this one with the steampunk guy, MissM added the cow and I finished with the floating islands.

I had this idea and I wrote a bedtime story for my kid and he loves it. He makes me read it to him every day at least 3 times. It's written in my notebook but I think I'm going to jazz it up with some illustrations and make it into a book. I haven't been this excited for a long time. :)

What's exciting to you these days?

Angels

These are two ATCs that I drew together and they ended up with half a face on each card.

Randomness:
  • It's raining a lot these days as oppose to snowing every other day like last month.
  • I'm still learning Spanish at our local library. It's supposed to be only for December but teacher decided to keep going through January at least, if not longer. I'm very happy about that.
  • The kid is picking up some unwanted language from adults. So, that's fun.
  • I'm on a lookout for a spiderman costume for our Mardi Gras or whatever is called our version of Halloween next month.
  • How's your new year like two weeks in?

Jack and Sally RR

Round Robin is a set of 3 cards which one artist starts, send to another to add something to the set and then sends to the third artist to finish everything. Each artist keeps a card that's why there are 3 in a set.

I started this set with Jack Skellington, BexMadeMe added Sally and Linda4atc finished with the background.

Hope everyone had a lovely time over the holidays and New Year's.
