Frida Kahlo ATCs

Randomness:
  • I'm struggling with creativity lately. I'm not satisfied with the way my art turns out. Luckily I have some old ATCs on the back burner that I can whip out for a blog post. Although, I'm not sure about the third Frida.
  • I'm slowly preparing the kid for daycare in September. He's still not keen on it but hopefully we'll do better than last year's fiasco.
  • It's hot. But I love summers because of salads and fruit. Luckily, my kid agrees.
  • I need to go out more. I feel like a hermit. I don't think I can afford another vacation but I sure would like to go on one again.
  • What are your plans for the rest of summer?

Acrylic pour painting - slanted / tilted pour w/ ribbon pour (wing pour fail)

I attempted another wing pour but I over-tilted and lost the wings, so I did a ribbon pour with a contrasting color to make up for it.

Hope everyone is keeping cool in this hot weather and having a great weekend. :)

Orange Catz & R.I.P. Roadie

Another one of my pets died. My very first and the oldest cat Roadie. She was 17 years old and she had kidney failure, the same as Bolha who died in February. She was the alpha cat and my favorite. I'll miss her.

Rainbow cards

Randomness:
  • Tonight, Friday 27th of July, is the full moon total lunar eclipse in Aquarius. If you're into astrology you probably already looked it up what it means for you. I'm Aquarius sun, so I'll be feeling it for sure.
  • We've been slowly painting the walls downstairs and redecorating. It looks fresh and it changes up the energy. We need some of that fresh energy.
  • Consequently, while mom and I were otherwise occupied, the kid decided to paint paving stones in the front. He got this idea when the other day I tried to occupy him by "drawing" roads with water and a painting roller. Luckily it rained not long after and we managed to get most of it off but not all.
  • We're dog-sitting one of the neighbor's dogs over the weekend. She doesn't want to stay the night here with us, so we only bring her here during the day and she sleeps at her own home. It's next door's, so it's no big deal.
  • How are you these days? What are your plans for this weekend?

Feather for our Kato R.I.P.

Our family dog Kato died last Saturday. He was 12,5 years old Karst Shepherd. This year is just full of death in our family. First my husband dies and then one of our cats, Bolha, on the day of husband's funeral. My dad died two months ago and now our dog Kato.

I know it's all part of life but it's hard all at once. And the hardest part is explaining all of these deaths to my 3 year old. He didn't understand what death is when his dad died. When his grandfather died he understood he's not coming back and was sad and even cried at the funeral.

It's hard to explain to him when he asks "why?".

Mermaids RR

I started this Round Robin with the mermaid's tail, Linda4atc completed the mermaid and BexMadeMe finished it all with the background.

I'm back from vacation and the kid and I had a great time. We went to Zakynthos, Greece. This was his first flight and I didn't know how he's going to react but he did just fine. The only thing was on the return flight when he fell asleep, because it was 10 p.m., his ears hurt when we were descending. On the way there he was awake and he was talking the whole time so the pressure in his ears didn't bother him as much.

He also didn't want to go into water. He preferred throwing rocks in the sea. He said the water was too cold for him. We'll see next year how he feels about it. He's definitely not a mermaid material. :)

Fluid art string pull flowers and poppy

I decided on a spur of the moment to go on vacation with my kid. He's 3 years old and I've never gone on vacation with him alone. It was scary to think about it but I figured I'll need to do it eventually unless we're staying at home until he grows up. My mom can't join us as she has to take care of our dogs and cats and chickens.

I got this idea on Friday really late at night and on Saturday I made reservations and gone through myriad of obstacles to pay for it. I succeeded after an hour and a half and we're boarding the plane on Monday afternoon.

This is a pre-scheduled post and we're hopefully enjoying the sun as you read this. I'll report how it all went when I get back. In the meantime enjoy this video of making the above painting with my kid's help. I had to edit a bit because I widened the camera angle and there was a lot of crotch shots. :)

Purple hair girl

Hello lovelies! How did the full moon treat you this week? I had trouble sleeping on the full moon. First I couldn't fall asleep, then my kid woke me up and then my dogs. It was like I wasn't sleeping at all with all the interruptions.

I had a job interview yesterday and I'm not sure how I feel about it. I mean, I need a job but I don't know, if this is the one. The timing is a bit off as well. I'm enrolling my kid in daycare in September and I'll need a couple of weeks to ease him into it. I'm pretty sure the new boss won't be happy about me taking time off after just starting a job. But, we'll see where this takes me.

Wishing you all a happy weekend. Let me know what you're up to. :)

P.S. I opened a SHOP here on my blog. I'm selling some of my "big hair ladies" paintings. Go and check them out! :) Also check out my YouTube channel for art videos.

Acrylic Pour Swipe gone wrong and saved by String Fluid Art Flowers

This painting started out as gold swipe over black and red but I still need to figure out how to get a good result with that. I decided to try a new technique on it since I already messed up and I like how the string flowers turned out.

Watch the video below to see what went on.

Geisha

This story has nothing to do with Geishas but it's cute and I wanted to share it with you.

The neighbor's pet hens got loose and I bumped into one on the street coming back from the playground with my kid. I started talking to her like a freaking lunatic and asked her if she mind me picking her up because I didn't want her to get run over by a car. She was so cute and tame, I picked her up and carried her back to her home. When there, another one came out of the bushes straight towards me as if she wanted to be put back in, too, so I talked to her as well, of course, and returned her to the fenced in makeshift henhouse they were staying at.

The hens are not this neighbor's but she’s babysitting them for her son who went on vacation. The reason I know that is because the other night another neighbor brought 3 hens to his next door neighbor thinking they were hers but she counted them and they weren’t. Then they proceeded to come to our place to check if they’re ours since we also have hens and they weren’t. That’s when my mom remembered that this neighbor must be babysitting her son’s pet hens.

Randomness:
  • I have plenty of acrylic pouring videos but I thought I'd sneak in some geishas
  • I'm learning Tarot reading for real this time. I've done it before but it didn't feel quite right so I stopped doing it.
  • My pooch Karma has allergies and needs to be treated because her hot spots are so bad she ended up on antibiotics again. It's been two months. When will this mess end?

Acrylic pour painting #2 tree rings and art video

This technique is called tree ring acrylic pouring because of the lines that look like tree rings. I must say this is my favorite technique so far. Btw, that's my 14 year old cat Charlie, who is deaf and a menace. Out of all of my cats, he's the troublemaker.

The thing with acrylic pouring is that you might love the painting as it is in the beginning but because there's so much paint, you have to redistribute it all over or even pour it off canvas so the paint is not on too thick. If that happens, the paint will crack and we don't want that.
Here's the making of this painting video. Please check it out and give it a like.

Acrylic pour paintings and New beginnings

I haven't posted last week because sadly my father passed away on Tuesday of last week. We had the funeral on Monday. I must say that this year has been challenging for me.

I do find comfort in making art and I ventured to a new challenge. It's called acrylic pouring and I started making videos of the process again. Check out my YouTube for that.

Hope you are all doing ok.

Dogs

I'm sorry I'm late with my post, I totally thought today was Thursday. It must be a glitch in my brain.
Randomness:
  • my pooch still has a hot spot on her leg and it's not healing the way it should
  • dad is not doing good. Pozitive vibes are still very much appreciated.
  • I'm painting again. You should get some more exciting eye candy that is not ATC (artist trading cards) soon

Just animals

I would appreciate some positive vibes. My dad's gallbladder ruptured last Friday and he had to have an emergency surgery. Unfortunately things got complicated and he had to have another surgery on Tuesday because the gallbladder fluid got in his lungs which caused pneumonia. He has been in critical condition ever since and needs help with breathing. He regained some consciousness yesterday though, but the doctors are not sure yet how soon he'll recover.

Thank you for your prayers and good thoughts.

characters from TV shows

Some of the characters I was asked to draw. YouTube sensation Miranda Sings, Jasmine Garza from TV show Continuum and Hannibal from TV show Hannibal.

I'm happy to report I did not pee my pants last week zip-lining. :) I did close my eyes in the beginning because I felt a bit overwhelmed with the speed of it. It was a fun thing to do.

I realized though that I'm not as daring as I used to be. I was always the one to try all the rides in the amusement parks. No ride scared me until I tried the free fall. That one was the first time I had to close my eyes at the beginning because I got overwhelmed.

Although I never got to try it, I wanted to go bungee jumping and skydiving but the older I get the less appealing it is to me. I'm sure I'll never go bungee jumping because of all the accidents I've heard about over the time but I might still go skydiving. Who knows?!

What's the most daring thing you've done so far? What's on your bucket list?

Toadstoools

Randomness:
  • Allergies suck! My eyes itch and I'm sneezing like crazy.
  • The kid caught a cold or something. His nose is running and he threw up one night.
  • Big pooch developed a hot spot due to allergies as well and it's taking it's sweet time to heal. She's still wearing that protective collar so she doesn't lick it. It's been 3 weeks now that she has it on.
  • On a positive note, I'm going zip-lining today with my friend. I'll let you know, if I peed my pants in the process of it. :)

Tim Burton Characters

I skipped last week's post because it was a hard week for me emotionally. I felt alone and overwhelmed. I don't know where my life is heading. I don't know what I'm doing. But don't worry, I had a good cry and I'm taking it one day at a time.

Elephants

Last week, I held on to doorframe (on the side where the hinges are) while putting on my shoes and the kid decided to close the door with my fingers in them. I can’t remember the last time I hurt my fingers in this way. It was so painful I felt sick.

My middle finger and ring finger are injured the most, pinky hurts but doesn’t have any visible injuries. I just hope my fingernails don’t fall off. I hear that can happen but I’ve never experienced it myself even though my fingers got caught in doors many times when I was a kid.

A couple of days later I stubbed my little toe while chasing my kid around the kitchen. These injuries remind me of my childhood and it feels weird that they're happening to me now.

P.S. I opened a SHOP here on my blog. I'm selling some of my "big hair ladies" paintings. Go and check them out! :)

Easter chicks and bunnies RR

Since it's Easter soon, I thought this bunny and chick round robin set of cards were appropriate for the occasion. Round robin cards are a set of three cards that three different artists work on and then each keeps a card when it's finished.

BexMadeMe started the set with the left bunny, IamWhatonearth added the right chick and I finished with the right bunny and left chick.

This brings me to a dream I had back in January. It stuck with me for two reasons. Somewhere along the line there was a train I was riding and I remember it because I have trains a lot in my dreams lately. There are different occasions but I'm always riding a train.

The other thing was three eggs that hatched a bunny. Not a chick, a bunny. Bunnies were already grown, not quite adults but already furry and ready to be on their own.

The third egg was a bit dented and while I was holding it in my hand, it broke and out came a furry bunny. But this one was not as big as the other two. You could tell, he was premature but nonetheless he wasn't in any danger of dying.

According to dream interpretation it symbolizes new beginnings and good luck.

Ladies

Randomness:
  • My pooch had an operation last week. I talked about why HERE. Yesterday I took her to remove stitches but half of the cut wasn't healed properly, so she still has half of stitches left until it heals. The cut is 18 cm (7") long.
  • We had another bout of snow last Sunday. It's getting a bit annoying now. There's always heavier snowfall where I live and the last one hasn't even melted yet and here we are with yet another 5 inches.
  • It's windy now. Not the nice spring breeze but full on wind.
  • Cars are fixed ... for now. We had to take both of our cars to the shop in the past 7 days but there was stuff they couldn't fix, so we're making do.
  • The little pooch got her long awaited haircut yesterday. It's only when she gets her fur buzzed off it's when I can see how fat she's gotten. She's not the only one. All our dogs are fat because my mom shows them love by giving them abundance of unnecessary treats.
  • I'm still dealing with paperwork. It's annoying but ... life goes on.

Handprint flower

Last week was International Women's day. Usually I gift my mom flowers but I didn't have time to buy any, so the kid and I made a greeting card for her. Hand prints and fingerprints are useful at this age. It's personal and something you want to keep as a memory. He helped with the brush strokes as well.
This one though is a garden fairy ATC. I thought I'd showcase them together since it's about flowers.
