Kid's fingerprint ornaments and Happy new Year

I'm making it a tradition for the kid and I to make handmade ornaments for our Christmas tree every year.

First year it was a hand print Santa and foot print Olaf. Second year it was hand print snowmen and fingerprint Christmas lights.

I don't put the salt dough ornaments on the tree because they cracked and I don't want them to break. But last year's baubles I did put up and the purple one got broken when the Christmas tree fell over.

Because of the cats, we put Christmas tree on the balcony. Hurricane winds from two weeks ago decided to knock it over. Not once but twice, and some ornaments broke, including the purple snowmen one.

This year we used salt dough again. I decided on the fingerprint reindeer that he loved so much when making greeting cards, and penguins. The black fingerprint is mine, the white one is his.

Happy New Year everyone!
See you all next year. :)

Kid's fingerprint Holiday greeting cards

The kid and I made some greeting cards to pass time when we were snowed in on Saturday, 2 weeks ago. We used paint and his hands.

Last year he couldn't tolerate paint on his hands and I had to wash it right off. This year he didn't mind so much. We had to wash the paint off straight away but he didn't mind repeating the process for each greeting card.

Two of them are hand prints that I turned into snowmen, one is fingerprints candy cane, one is fingerprints Christmas tree lights and the last one is my boy's favorite, fingerprints reindeer.

I asked him whom he's sending each greeting card to and he decided to send the reindeer one to himself. He later changed his mind and sent it to one of his aunts.

Happy Holidays everyone!

Hope everyone is well. The kid caught a cold from my mom and is coughing like crazy. There were very little special activities for us this week because of it. Hopefully tomorrow he'll feel better and we can go see a children's show and meet Santa.

Santa with elephant RR

It's that time of the year when people are in a Holiday spirit, so consequently the art is Christmasy colored. I try to space out round robin cards so there is no more than one post a month but since they're all Holiday themed, I'll just show them all this month.

This Round Robin was started by Linda4atc with the elephant, MissM added the Christmas tree and I finished with Santa.

Last Saturday we woke up to 30 cm of snow again and no electricity. Because of the heavy snowfall the power went out. To our household that means we also have no heating and no water which can become a problem, if the power stays out for too long and the house grows cold.

Then on Monday and Tuesday we had hurricane winds and rain that took out electricity again and caused floods and mudslides throughout the country. On the up side, most of the snow melted because it was so warm. But it didn't last long because we had another shipment of snow on Wednesday.

On Thursday we went to the city's kids winter park and my kid went ice skating for the first time. I haven't been on skates since high school and let me tell you my legs did not appreciate this activity.

When was the last time you went ice skating?

Scrolls and Elves

Here are a couple of Round Robin sets I started 3 years ago actually and were finished 2 years ago but I forgot to show them here on the blog last year so here they are now.

I made the backgrounds with Adirondack sprays and added a scroll to the first set and border to the second one. Miss M added the first row of characters on the scroll and Tandy finished it with the second row.
Mcgillisj added the elf to my background and Tandy finished it with the ornaments.

Randomness:
  • I'm learning Spanish this month. The local library offered a free class on short notice and I jumped on it.
  • I'm having fun with my kid with everyday special holiday activities. He got his first presents this week thanks to St. Nicholas we celebrate on 6th. Dec. Toy violin was the main gift.
  • The kid is loving the skis. Nobody in our family knows how to ski, so you can imagine the hilarity of the situation.
  • The little pooch needed a haircut because she was getting depressed but that means she's cold now outside. Consequently, she spends most time on the sofa.
  • We're getting a new shipment of snow tomorrow. Hopefully it won't be much. We have enough as it is.

Christmas Foxes

How freaking cute is this Round Robin set? I love it. MissM started the set with the right fox, I added the left one and BexMadeMe finished with the rest.

It's December and I wanted to make this month more fun for my kid. I wrote down activities to do together each day of the month and put them in a jar for the kid to pull out every day. Of course I'm going to adapt it to the events we have scheduled already. The idea was to do special things that we don't normally do.

One of those was to put together a bookcase so we can organize his books and toys. Unfortunately I ordered it on line and it came earlier than expected. Because I couldn't curb his excitement, we had to put it together before 1st Dec. So, here we were on Wednesday morning before I even brushed my teeth or washed my face, putting together a bookcase in our PJs.

On Thursday, we put together my new office chair. He loves helping out even though he gets in a way and has his own ideas where stuff should go. Now I have to think up new activities to fill out two days in December.

Today we're going to a nearby town to the Christmas tree lighting ceremony. Hopefully the weather's not too bad. It's been snowing since Wednesday.

What are your doing this December? Anything special?
