Stencil Test Drive, Book 9 and Aliens

Stencil Girl released another set of stencils designed by Jessica Sporn and I'm happy I can show you one of them today.
I thought they would be perfect for my alien art journal spread. :) If you've been following my blog, you'll know that aliens are made with a technique taught in Life Book class.

Don't forget to check out other party people that are using this stencil in their projects today. But before you do, be sure to leave a comment here because Jessica is giving away a Hands stencil to one lucky winner, and EVERY comment in the test drive will be eligible to win. The more times you comment, the more chances you have to win!"

The ninth book for The Artful Readers Club is

My review:
2-3*
I really liked the whole Alien concept in this story and it showed potential to be something awesome. But it wasn’t.

Well, Alex was just kind of thrown into this Alien stuff and she acted like everything is normal. She does say a couple of times that she didn’t know they existed before now but she doesn’t even question it. A normal person would actually question their sanity, she just accepts it like a given. And I find it funny that she’s supposed to have a really high IQ and then gets a “security” job of checking out alien blogs. I would understand if she was some powerful hacker. But blogger?

It’s pretty obvious from the start that Ace is her love interest but did it have to be insta love? And what’s up with Gavin? He’s acting very jealous and possessive and he never even met Alex before she came into Circe nevertheless share any intimacy to explain his behavior.

Everything in this story was just a big drama over nothing. Like Jen encouraging Alex to seduce Ace and then scolding her for dating him. And then that entire rule breaking everyone is talking about. What are the rules? Alex doesn’t know them and neither does the reader. I know it’s supposed to portray a forbidden romance but one doesn’t really get that feeling since we don’t really know why it’s forbidden. Her Dad actually made her a prisoner with a monitor cuff on her ankle without explaining why it’s bad for her to date an alien.

Malcolm finally sort of explains it to her that it’s somewhat like if an interracial couple would be dating back in the sixties. I’m not entirely sure this explanation and constant comparison to Romeo and Juliette is the right way to go. It doesn’t feel very much forbidden love apart from people saying so. War? Seriously? Do you want to know how they end war? They profess their love. Yeah.

  35. I think that I would have raised at least a few hundred questions if I found myself surrounded by aliens. Sarah is right, the book "sounds super frustrating."

Your art, on the other hand, FUN! All the little hands made me think of aliens getting probed ;-D

  38. The best part of this book is your art. I found it rather disconcerting, and got lost, just like you, when it came to understanding what this book was about. I DID love the art, though.

  39. I like your combination of the hands and aliens. It looks as though the hands are keeping the aliens and humans apart as far as love goes. But it's a pity the book was a bit of a let-down. So many of us have had one or two like that this year, so it's just as well we've had some good ones too.
