Live Your Wild Life

Here's what went wrong with this journal page:
  • the paper was warped and I was too lazy to tape the stencil down to get a proper image
  • the purple paint was too transparent so I decided to use white spray paint first to get a base
  • I sprayed my fingers white and it won't come off
  • the spray paint was too shiny for the purple acrylic paint to stick nicely
  • had to go over multiple times which resulted in losing the edges
  • had to go over with a pen to define edges
And then I just said, F*ck it!

Because I'm in a slump again and I barely make myself look at paint let alone use it. That's why this is the only piece of art for this week. I didn't want to miss Summer of Color and I thought I'd try the new stencil designed by Jessica Sporn that she so graciously sent to me to test drive. I wish I would give it justice because it's truly awesome but it'll have to be some other time when I'm feeling more alive.

And I just remembered I was supposed to do the Artful Readers Club post today. I read the book but didn't do the art. Next week might be better for me.

Freaky Wednesday on a Monday

Because I have no art to show you today, I decided to post Freaky Wednesday post today instead. Hope you'll enjoy it.

Hey, did you read any good books lately?
Shaken (Mind Reader)
I instantly liked Kylie after reading her thoughts all jumbled up in her brain. I was glad we got to find out about her mind reading at the very beginning so action followed suit. The author has such a fun way of writing that I laughed out loud on several occasions. There were a lot of surprises to the story and I loved it. I wish though there was more to the best friend and the boy crush situation. The scene at the end where the bad guys escaped was a little far-fetched and I wished it was written more believable. But other than that I really enjoyed this book. Very entertaining.

Is there a movie I should see?

You've probably  already seen it but if you haven't Juno is a must movie to see. It's from 2007 and I avoided it for a long time. I have no excuse for it but when I finally watched it a couple of years ago, I could see what the fuss was all about. Great movie!

Cat Witches and some other random stuff

Orange and pink are colors for this week's Summer of Color. I went with another animal witch ATC for the swap I'm participating in.

Some random thoughts for your this fine Friday. :)
  • I'm trying to do yoga every day but I'm failing miserably. I'm just doing like 8 minutes following a YouTube video but the thing is I tend to forget. And when I do remember it's at inconvenient time. But when I do do it, I feel awesome. It just stretches muscles that I didn't know I had.
  • I had people ask me about how I did my clickable header and I finally managed to put together a tutorial and you can check it out HERE.
  • I'm a little confused about sharing people's work when they state you need their permission to do so. But isn't posting images / words / videos on platforms like Facebook, twitter, YouTube and others where there is a "SHARE" button doing just that? Giving permission to share? Otherwise why would you post something somewhere where there's an option to share your work if you don't want to share, right?
  • Have I told you about the Amazing Biz & Life Academy that Leonie Dawson put together? I just started a month or so ago but I'm taking it easy because there is just so much information it's overwhelming. I'm loving it though. You should check it out!
  • This song is my favorite right now. :)

How to make a clickable header a.k.a. Image Map

If you’re thinking about making your header clickable and linking to different places then you probably already have a design in mind.

Make a header with whatever software you have. It doesn’t matter if you want different pictures to be clickable or just words or even just different parts of the same picture (for example if you have seven birds in your header). You can use Photoshop, Paint or even PicMonkey. Or you can draw it / paint it yourself and just scan it to your computer.

Make sure you re-size the picture to your blog requirements. Mine is width="960" height="200"

Now we’re getting to the technical part.

First you need to enable adding widgets in your header. As it is now by default, you can only have one header widget and you cannot replace it with an image map.
  • Go to your Template > Edit HTML
  • Back up your template.
  • Search for 'header-wrapper' and find these lines:
Click the picture to see it bigger
  • Change the following: maxwidgets to 2, showaddelement to yes and locked to false
It needs to look like this:
Click the picture to see it bigger

Go to Layout page and check to see if there is an additional widget there and a “Remove” button on the default header when you click "Edit".
  • To avoid uploading your header picture to third parties (web albums), use the default header widget to upload your new header picture and preview before you save. Use the right click of the mouse on your new header and select “Copy Image Location”.
Now go to
  • Paste the link you just required to the “From a URL” form and click “Start Mapping Your Image”.
Click the picture to see it bigger
  • When you get to this part first change the “Base URL” to your blog URL and click “Update”. This is so when you click on your header it will take you to your blog Home. And also unclick the “Show Text Links” unless you want your titles to show underneath the header. (as shown in picture one below this one)
Click the picture to see it bigger
  • Then use “Rectangle” or “Custom shape” to select areas on your picture to be clickable. Add the link to where you want this selection to link to and add title. Title shows when you hover your mouse over the area.
  • Click “Test the Link” to see if it works. A separate tab should open at this point taking you to the URL that you linked.
  • Click “Save” and repeat as many times as you need your header selections to link to other places. When you’re all done click “Get Your Code”.
  • You are redirected to a page and look for the tabs on top. Click on the first one “HTML Output” and check if all selections are working properly.
Click the picture to see it bigger
  • Click “HTML Code” tab to get the code and go back to your blog layout.
  • Click on “Add a Gadget” on your header section and select HTML / Javascript gadget. Paste the code but leave the “Title” field blank.
  • When you view your blog you’ll see two headers. Test the image map to see if everything works fine. Go back to layout, click “Edit” on your default header and click remove so only the image map remains.
You can stop here because you have an awesome new clickable header. But if you’re bothered that the links open in the same tab and you would want them all or just some of them to open in a new tab, then follow the tip below.

  • Go to your blog Layout page and click “Edit” on your header widget. Look at the code and find the parts which you’d like to open in a new tab. Just look for the links like twitter, Facebook, Pinterest, e-mail, etc. and paste target='_blank'/ before the closing >. See below picture for reference.

Save everything and you’re done!

Giraffes, Brown Bears and randomness

Fabulous randomness:
  • Here's a really delicious and super healthy homemade ice cream for you. Clean and wash any kind of fruit you like and cut it into smaller pieces, if you need to, then freeze it. I like to leave it overnight to freeze. Then take your food processor and use the blade to mix and slice everything. Hold on to the food processor because it will jump around. Let it mix long enough to get a creamy substance. And you're done. :) If you like creamier ice cream, use banana as a base. If you like more icy ice cream, go with the fruits that have a lot of water in them. Oh, and if you add powdered chocolate to your banana ice cream, you'll probably want to send me donations as a thank you. :)
  • Here is an awesome interview that Mayra did with me. Go check it out and see what I had to say about my basic life philosophy and happiness among other things!
  • Promo in my Society6 shop. FREE Shipping expires June 16, 2013. Offer excludes Framed Art Prints, Stretched Canvases and Throw Pillows with insert. Go through THIS LINK.
  • I'm back to making ATC's. :)
  • To draw the brown bears I followed THIS tutorial.

Freaky Wednesday and The Summer of Color

Ok, Freaky Wednesday is on and it will happen twice a month. I think we can all handle that, don't you think? :)

First thing first. Here is an awesome interview that Mayra did with me. Go check it out! :)

Citron Green & Turquoise for The Summer of Color Challenge:
I'm doing a Spooky Witch Swap with a twist. They can't be human so I made an alien one that fits perfect with Summer of Color choice of colors for this week.

Hey, did you read any good books lately?
I totally loved PERCEPTION (Perception Series). The story has a nice pace and interesting twists. It was a really enjoyable read. The author had a nice way of world building but I didn't expect science vs. religion concept.

I really liked Zoe as she was portrayed as strong willed and relentless to find out what happened to her brother. Her relationship with Noah was a really nice touch and I liked how their friendship evolved beyond that. It was also interesting to see how Zoe changed her perspective of the society where she was born and raised.

Is there a movie I should see?

This is a 2011 movie and it's called Hanna. I remember being really surprised with this story so I recommend it to anyone who is into action and thriller. The girl that's playing the main character Hanna is the same one that played Wanda in The Host. Good luck with pronouncing her name. :)

Crystals and Happiness

The purpose of our lives is to be happy.
~ Dalai Lama

Do you want to see my crystals? Well, I'm showing them to you either way. :)
they're sunbathing
As it happens I had a good reason to go into the City on Saturday so I took advantage of it and went to a crystal shop and got myself some more crystals. That amethyst cluster on the left is my baby. :)

The thing with crystals is that they are 2-3 € a piece which you'd think is not a lot but then you get 16 pieces and it's suddenly not that cheap anymore.

And there are still some missing because apparently we're out of citrine clusters here but I managed to find a citrine point over the internet. Hopefully I will get it tomorrow. I ordered black tourmaline as well as I can't find them anywhere else either.

Shopping over the internet can be risky but I found out I actually got some beautiful specimens. I compared some of which I already had to the ones in the shop on Saturday and my citrine, smokey quartz and rose quarts were better color but amethyst was better in the shop so I got two more because I just love that crystal. :)

Do you know how they say that the crystal picks you? And you're supposed to hold the ones you're attracted to and see if you can feel anything from them. Well, I picked up six green aventurines in my hand and my hand started buzzing. Not with sound but that tingling feeling you get. I was so excited to experience that. :)

Hobbits and Summer of Color

Summer of Color is starting again. I always have so much fun with this challenge. The very first time I participated, I decided to make ATC's and that's when I got obsessed with them for a long time. I haven't done any lately but I'm on my way back as I entered a swap after taking a little break.

Random thoughts:
  • I realized I still have winter tires on my car. Basically because my hubby is driving it and he's terrible at taking care of cars. An oxymoron for a man, I know!
  • I finally got me some crystals. And that's because I bought them over the internet. I still haven't managed to go to the crystal shop in the city. I'm really terrible with going into the city. When I lived there I had no problem stopping at places that were on my way. If I had to go to the old part of the city, I really had to talk myself into it for months before it really happened. Not because it was terrible but because it was inconvenient. It's the same way now going to the city. It's inconvenient and there has to be a big reason for me to go.
  • I once missed a Joss Stone's concert like that because it was outdoors and it was raining. Inconvenient even though the concert was like 10 minutes away by foot.
  • I had to Google what Hobbits looks like. I thought that Hobbit was some mythological creature like elves but it's actually a made up word by Tolkien. (the guy who wrote Lord of the Rings) They are approx. 4 feet tall people that look human but with slightly pointy ears. They have brown curly hair and wear green velvet breeches with a red or yellow west topped with brown or green jacket with gold buttons and deep green hood or cloak. They are barefoot with leathery soles and curly hair on top of their feet. I did not know their description was so precise.

Author Kia Garriques
Kia Garriques studied writing and English literature at University and has been a published short story writer since 2009. Her first story “The Invisible Alien Watcher” was published by Micro Horror in 2009 and reprinted by Pill Hill Press in 2011. Innovera Yakov: The Journey of a Thousand Eyes – is her first novel in the ‘Worlds’ series.
Blu Tara stared her sister in the face. ‘Let me tell you what you don't know about love, Gamma. It is a curse. You will scoop out your core and abandon it just to have the Being that you love. You will steal another person's life force if it makes it easier to get it. You will abandon the world you have been cradled in, betray everything and everyone you care for. You’ll give up your name for it.’

Blu Tara's voice went soft and dreamy. ‘You will gladly close your eyes and embrace the world of darkness. You will kill or die for it. And you will hate yourself for the weakness that it brings on you. So don’t talk to me about love.’

Gamma shook her head. ‘You're not making sense,’ Blu Tara. ‘You talk as if... I’m the one who should be upset about all this.’

Blu Tara lifted her hand dismissively. She pointed a hot finger at Gamma. ‘Anyway don’t forget what we are.’

'And what are we?’ Gamma glared at her..

'Different. Strange. Something to be frightened of. Two Beings that can fuse and burn everything to ashes. That's the way they all see us down there. That's what the Stardog wants from you - the powers you possess.

‘I hate them all. With their suspicious, shiny faces and their empty games. I hate that Voice which drones on and on at us in the Learning Dome as soon as we've finished resting. Innoverans! All those perfect, pretty Beings; they remember nothing — it’s the curse of this shallow, shining world. Tell me, Gamma - what do you remember of the world we come from before your Odors Apeno dumped us here?’

Gamma swung around to face her sister fully. ‘Blu Tara! What's got into you? Where’s all that coming from? I've never heard you speak like that before. This is about Krave and I- not you!’

‘Krave and you - don't make me laugh. And, oh! Here’s a big difference — between you and I this time, Twin Sister. It’s the answer to your question that you brought me up here to ask.’ Blu Tara mimicked Gamma's soft and musical voice, ‘Why do you want to kill Krave? Here's the answer, Gamma. I will do whatever I have to do to save myself. I'm the half of you that's not like you. I don't have a weeping heart. Now I'm out of here. I need my Rest.’
