Cotton Candy Girl

This is one of the girls I show you how to draw and paint in my Cotton Candy Girls On-line Workshop. :) Registration is now open. The class starts May 7, 2012.
Look at this yummy texture! :) I really had fun making this one. There are so many layers here that I almost didn't want to cover up the background. :)

Goddess #4

I'm cheating on the 13 Goddesses today. :) I've done so many Greek Goddesses that I didn't feel like drawing another. So, here is a page from the Life Book class that I haven't shown yet.

Hestia is the virgin goddess of the hearth, architecture and of the right ordering of domesticity and the family. Because she took an oath to never marry, she had averted the possibility of war between the rival suitors.

Zeus was so delighted with Hestia's decision that he handed her the keys to the family home (Mount Olympus) and offered her the position of a manager. With it came the responsibility of running this vast estate while the rest of the gods and goddesses wandered about in the larger world having all sorts of adventures.

Remember when I told you about the stamp I carved? Well, shortly after that I did it again.:))
And if you're on my FB page you've seen them already . . . but they are so cute! I wanna pinch those chicks, don't you?! :) I call them Linda. :)
Anyway, they are available in my Etsy shop. I only listed two, so if you want some other color combination, just message me. :)
Size: 14,5x10 cm (aprox. 5,7"x3,9")

So, I took the stamp and made a painting with it.:) She's Linda's cousin from Spain. And she's an angel. :)

I also made an intro clip with her for my art videos. What do you think?

Shalom from Israel

Dear Mrs Tiggy,

Thank you for the Swatch watch. It’s perfect!

I’m writing to you from Israel. Our captain decided that we need a refresher course in diving and sent us to a boot camp. We’re taking diving lesson in the Dead Sea.

I was a little shocked. I really wasn’t aware you could dive in the Dead Sea. Obviously, just swimming is almost impossible.

Xoxo Mr. Black

Back in Business

I'm back in business. :) My computer decided to die on me so I had to get a new one. I was computer-less for a couple of days and I got a chance to think over some things. :)

I whispered something to you on Wednesday but now I'm ready to say it out loud. There are too many "what if's" in my life already so I decided this will not be one of them. :)

I've been thinking about this for a long time and I even made some plans but I managed to talk myself out of it a couple of times. But this time it's different. Everything is ready and it would be a shame for all the hard work to be for nothing.

So, I'm very excited to announce my very first

on-line workshop

Cotton Candy Girls
This is a 5 week course where I will show you how to draw and paint Cotton Candy Girls on different surfaces and with different supplies.

Videos and PDF's are downloadable and for you to keep forever. You will get to finish one painting a week plus I have a bonus video ready for you.:)

To find out more about it go over HERE. I will add a supplies list and a video a little later.

Goddess #3

And this week's Goddess for 13 Goddesses challenge is Japanese Amaterasu. She is the goddess of sun and universe. Her whole name, Amaterasu-ōmikami, means the great august kami (god) who shines in the heaven.
Amaterasu is a shining example from who we learn to look at the not-so-good experiences in our lives as teachers.

Also Amaterasu teaches us strength in adversity and to develop the humor and fortitude required to bounce back after a bad incident with double the force and rigor.

P.S. I have something exciting coming up. :) I have finally put everything together and now all it's left is for me to figure out how to present it since my original plan fell through. So, I'm whispering very quietly right now for you are the first one to know. :) My first ever workshop is coming up. It's true! I'm so excited and I hope you will be too. :)) I'll have all the details ready soon.

It's in the eyes

Don't you just love her?! :))) I call her Rainbow. It's hard to imagine, why, right?! :)

Let's talk random today, shall we?!
* I love spelt bread
* I love peanut butter and banana on spelt bread
* I love Zen Chai, I drink probably around 10 cups a day
* I pee a lot :)
* I have finally figured out how to post photos to facebook from my phone
* Here's the first photo I posted
My big pooch Karma on a killer leash :)
*It's an old photo. You can tell by looking at her now. She gained some weight over the winter and earned herself a diet. :)
* I have a thing lately for green eyes and red hair for some odd reason
* Here's one on the theme of eyes. :) I'm allergic to some shit as of last year. I have never been allergic to anything my whole life but all of a sudden my eyes started itching.  Like in February. WTF blooms in February?? It's still snow outside and -15°C!

Now I'm on "the pill". I really try to avoid taking it so I take it when I really have problems with my eyes and it feels like I wanna scratch them out.
* So now I'm walking around with bloody eyes and dark circles around my eyes as if someone beat the shit out of me

How about you? What's your randomness today? :)

Hoi from the Netherlands

Dear Mr. Black,

How exciting! You as a Mountie! But I’m afraid Canada might be too cold for you.

Anyway, can you guess where I am? I’ll give you a hint. They are known for their tulips, wind mills and coffee shops. :)

You cannot imagine how excited I am to be here. So many museums and artists selling on street markets. I bought five paintings already. I really must hold myself back not to buy everything I see.

I’m sending the Swatch watch I bought you along with this postcard. Do let me know if you like it when you receive it.

Xoxo Mrs. Tiggy.

Put a Stamp on it

You've heard me talking about STEve's ARTFIRe, right?! It's Amy's FREE workshop and she sends out video tutorials on how to do stuff. Anyway, one of the things she showed was how she carves a stamp.
print 2 and 3
So, as much as that was inspiring, I didn't get to it until last weekend. The thought of carving such details did not sit well with me.

But . . . I finally gave in and found this big old eraser (rubber for my UK friends :)) from back when I was trying to carve my own stamps. Yes, I've done it before but simple shapes like a flower and stuff.
print 4 and 5
The Girls and her friend Linda are available on Etsy.

And it wasn't so annoying to carve after all. It was a little tricky around the eyes but not bad for the first try, right?

To recap. I used a 2"x3" eraser and very sharp carving tools. I think sharpness is the key. And you can probably find the stuff Amy used to carve her stamp from in her video around where you live. Eraser was just my choice.

Goddess #2

And now the Goddess #2 for the 13 Goddesses challenge.
Tiamat is a Babylonian goddess of the ocean who gave birth to sea creatures. Although she is often described as a sea monster (a multi-headed dragon in Dungeons & Dragons game), there is no ancient text to corroborate that.

In fact, in Enûma Elish which is the Babylonian creation myth, her physical description includes a tail, a thigh, "lower parts" (which shake together), a belly, an udder, ribs, a neck, a head, a skull, eyes, nostrils, a mouth, and lips. Inside she has a heart, arteries, and blood.

So, I made her look like a mermaid. :) I want boobs like that. :)

Monday, March 12, 2012

I made a speed painting video of this girly. She's a little weird isn't she?! :) But she chose to look like this.

You'll need to go to The Butterfly Effect to see the video and link your "red" inspired artwork. :)
Both were inspired by Life Book class teacher Mystele. I just love painting like this right now. I do backgrounds several in a row and wait for them to dry. Then I go over them and try to find faces in them.

And you do find them if you look close enough. :) For example the second one had a unicorn on it. I could see it clearly but I wasn't feeling it so I errased the outline. Then it took me several minutes to find the eyes but after that the rest appeared. The mouth gave me trouble but I found them just when I started painting.:)

That's it. That's all I've got to say. :) Now, go watch my video!

Hello from Canada

Dear Mrs. Tiggy,

Can you tell where I am? I think the hat looks good on me.:) Do you think they’d let me enroll in the Royal Canadian Mounted Police

It would be fun to change profession after all these years on the cruise ship. Besides I’m a really good rider. You should see me on a galloping horse. :)

Xoxo Mr Black

P.s. I would love a Swatch Watch from Switzerland. I never owned an original. Thanks for thinking of me. :)

And if you missed it, I decided to remove prints from my Etsy shop. So, if you were thinking of getting one, you have time until Sunday. I'll delete the listings after that. :)

Zombie Bunny and Dinosaurs

Now . . .  Why would someone want to draw a zombie bunny?
Well . . . because I can. :)

I love trading ATC's. I trade all of my atc's and when somebody asks me to do a personal trade I know I'm gonna be challenged in some way. :) And I get some pretty crazy requests like this zombie bunny.

And I love it! I love being pushed out of my comfort zone and doing something I'd never think of doing. And it's always a fantastic feeling when I realize that I can do whatever even though I'm freaking out in the beginning. :)
The same happened with these dinosaurs. But . . . I found something on the internet that helped me out. How to draw a dinosaur. :) You should definitely check it out if you want to draw a dinosaur.

On another note. I decided to remove prints from my Etsy shop. So, if you were thinking of getting one, you have time until Sunday to do so. I'll remove the listing after that. :)

Goddess #1 and nightmares

There's a new challenge in town called 13 Goddesses in 13 weeks and I'm playing along. The pantheon for each week is already selected so we can plan ahead.:)

The toughest thing for me is to find the right goddess to portray. It takes up most of my time. After that, I sketch it fairly quickly. I'm concentrating more on the figure than on the face as you can see. I think it would be a good lesson for me to make my girls more dynamic.

For the first week we have a choice of a Celtic or Nordic goddess. I chose Freya, the Nordic goddess of love, beauty, fertility, gold, witchcraft, war and death. Freya assists other deities by allowing them to use her feathered cloak and she's often portrayed to be riding a chariot pulled by two cats.
I’m also linking this one to The Butterfly Effect. The theme is dreams/nightmares and the two reoccurring nightmares of mine when I was growing up was going to school naked and being chased by someone or something and then flying away just before they could get me. I think having Freya's wings would make it easier for me to escape. :)

Grüetzi from Switzerland

Dear Mr. Black,

I see you’re having so much fun in Cuba you only had time to write a couple of words to me.

Well, I’m still in Europe. In Switzerland as you can see from the postcard. I have no idea what we’re doing in these mountains but it’s a lot of fun.

Chocolate here is even better than those Belgian pralines you sent me and don’t even get me started about the cheese. It’s heavenly.

Did you know the Swiss have four official languages? It’s just amazing to me.

I’m off a little later to do a little shopping. I was thinking of buying you a Swatch watch. What do you think?
Xoxo, Mrs Tiggy.

Here's some art eye candy from the Life Book class that I'm linking to Paint Party Friday. I love the teacher Mystele. I've seen her videos a couple of years ago and even tried her pull art. She is just amazing and I really enjoyed her lesson. :)
