Hello peeps!
It's time for Paint Party Friday.
I felt like painting big again so I made this piece on Halloween hence the halloweenie inspiration. :)
It's painted on a A2 size watercolor paper sketchbook. It says it's 16 1/2" x 23 1/2". And I feel very relaxed painting on/in it.
As you can see I really don't bother being precise. Details annoy me. It really does make a difference the way I paint if it's on a canvas that I might sell or in a sketchbook that I know the piece is not going anywhere.
There's a certain freedom to it. I don't mind screwing up, don't mind if the lines are not straight, don't mind if colors don't match, don't mind if paint ends up where it's not suppose to. Don't mind at all. I'm liking it. :)
What do/don't you like about your sketchbook? :)

She's gorgeous Natasha! A certain freedom comes with the 'I don't care' attitude and shows up in the painting . I like that part. We all need a place to express where perfection is no where near. Miss Perfect needs to take a hike so we can relax and simply enjoy the process. Take care and thanks for dropping by my blog. :o) Donna
ReplyDeleteI like the freedom of just playing with paint as well... and this is just full of colour and movement and fun xx
ReplyDeleteGood piece, Natasha! I prefer painting big to small, but can't always do it because I don't have the space! Valerie
ReplyDeleteHey I'm with you Natasha, what the frag difference with the details, friggin Picasso drew on a serviette & it's still worth more than heaps of stuff on Belgium Linen... What I DON'T like about my sketchbook is I think it's precious so I worry about having to rip out pages because I hate something... pathetic huh, what I DO like is I record 'ideas' more than art, visual ideas... & sometimes I come back & go, "hell yes" & sometimes I think "what the frag was I thinking?"
ReplyDeleteHappy PPF babe!
I like that I write everything that comes down into my head with little sketches that no one could decipher (except me)
ReplyDeleteSometimes when I lose my "main" notebook--I go crazy--I have so much important information in there
:)
Loving your fun piece Natasha. Happy PPF, x
ReplyDeleteIt's all about the doing!!! Her hair looks like mine on some days!!!
ReplyDeletecheers, dana
Big is beautiful ;0)
ReplyDeleteNice post thanks for sharing...God bless you...
ReplyDeleteLove your painting ~ very freeing and flowing! ~ My sketchbook ~ I think I love it all as it has some good things and some not so good things ~ means I am learning ~thanks, namaste, Carol (Share the Creative Journey) Happy PPF ^_^
ReplyDeleteShe is great! I love the blue hair, and all the other strong colors! About the question: For some reason I don't like to sketch on a book. Not even sure why, but I prefer loose paper, then I stick them in a binder if I'm to keep them
ReplyDeleteI love your attitude - it's a good one to have. Sometimes, I do get caught up in the small details of a piece but I am trying with my bigger oil to be looser and less uptight!
ReplyDeleteI don't really paint in a book - the sketchpads I use have pages that come away easily so that if something turns out well it's a stand alone piece!
Wonderful piece with so much freedom and great colors. I don't do a sketchbook. Faye
ReplyDeleteBold colours and strokes. She looks as relaxed as you were. :)
ReplyDeleteI haven´t got that big yet. I like the look.
It's wonderful that you give yourself that type of artistic freedom. I wouldn't have realized this was so large, I still get intimated once I go past 8 X 10 LOL! Lovely Work!
ReplyDeleteI want hair like that! I love it! :)
ReplyDeleteHappy PPF!!

And I think what I like best about my sketchbook is its portability. :)

Very Fun! It is nice to just put paint where it falls...and enjoy the whole process!
ReplyDeleteI like the bright colors :)
This is great! I love that hair. I like everything about sketchbooks, just looking at one makes me happy.
ReplyDeleteHer hair is over the moon fabby! This is a wonderful piece! *smiles* Norma
ReplyDeleteyes! that is exactly it! isnt' it? when i work on paper, i'm like, 'eh... who cares'
ReplyDeleteand then i have a blast and they are the ones i like the most.
love sketchbooks.
xxa
I agree, sketchbooks give you such a sense of freedom. It's such fun to just relax and go wherever the colors and your mind takes you. Love the bats and her swirly hair!
ReplyDeletehow awesome to give yourself this freedom! This is a fun piece to see Natasha.
ReplyDeleteFUN! I love the bats and the blue hair :D
ReplyDeleteI like being able to play, and make something for myself. I'm usually painting for someone else, and have to worry if it will sell or not.
ReplyDeletehey natasa!
ReplyDeleteyep acrylics hold on the record very well. i do have to be careful though because it's SUCH a brittle surface that when i used the stabilo pencil over top, it scratched through the wet paint (doesn't usually happen with those pencils).
but yep.. i sort of enjoyed painting on the record. :)))
xxa
It's nice to paint freely, good job on a large piece!
ReplyDeleteYes, I can see you were feeling free.. and she is so darn cute.
ReplyDeletei want her dress. or wait - maybe it's a poncho now i want it even more. i bought a super cheap sketchbook thinking i'd be more willing to use it since it was cheap. but the paper is so yucky and thin. i bought a better sketchbook for a round robin and it was so yummy and dreamy i didn't want to stop using it and mail it off, so I bought another.
ReplyDeleteLove your new painting...she's creatively cool!
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with you. If i don't worry and think much I have more freedom into what I do. I felt like i do best whenever i let it go and allow myself the will to create. What I like about my sketchbook is that it's a mixture of my work then and now. I don't mind the imperfection because this is part of my creative journey. I love your painting because it's filled with your personal touch. Keep it up! --Elisa from harmonythoughts.com
ReplyDeleteSo cute, love her blushed cheeks!
ReplyDeleteThe background looks really cool too, the shading makes it look like she's glowing~

Natasha I love your paintings, I truly do! And, I think, one should always paint freely! Sometimes, those little mistakes, as we call it, add character to a piece ;o) You know, I really don't have a sketchbook? I just use scrap paper to draw on, maybe I should use one ;o) Have a great one!
ReplyDeleteVery fun painting!
ReplyDeletevery fun. I don't really have a book, but if I get into something, I just do, and if I don't, I just don't!
ReplyDeleteI have to confess I'm freer with my journal than with a canvas. Sometimes I take too long with a canvas and it takes forever! Patsy from

Her blue hair is great! And I like her rosy cheeks.
ReplyDeleteShe is gorgeous :)
ReplyDeleteI love sketchbook/journals for the same thing...freedom. I just have fun & play. As soon I move to canvas I freeze up with all kinds of worry. :) But, I am learning to let go!!
ReplyDeleteGreat hairdo!
