Paints on my workdesk again. :) Trying some new stuff in my journal.
Let me ask all of you who have art journals or whatever. Do you ever get to not finish the page? Cause I often sketch and then move on before I put in color. So sometimes my journal looks more like a sketchbook. What is the difference between them?
I actually came back to this journal spread just to add color so it won't look like a sketchbook. And another thing. Does anyone have any suggestions about sealing the pages so they don't stick together? I tried spray varnish but it doesn't work on all pages. Some of them still stick together.
Linking to WOYWW of course.:)
And a little pimping today. :) You can win a set of my greeting cards if you enter over at Jaws n Lbows . And you can sigh up for this awesome course called Hero's Art Yourney e-course. It starts on Monday.:)

when I use products that tend to cause the pages to stick together I will lay a piece of tissue or vellum between the pages. Like they used to do in old photo albums.
ReplyDeleteI tend to use paint that does not stick but what about sheets of parchment paper (used for baking).
ReplyDeleteI often paint a page and leave it before I decorate it but then I mainly rubber stamp and write words in my journal. Might try some drawing like you do but bet I finish the page before moving on.
Enjoyed your moving pictures - snippets of my art.
Thanks for sharing - Hugs, Neet #4
I don't know anything for sealing the pages, but I put silicone paper - the type you use when baking cakes - between the pages, it's cheap and works well! Valerie
ReplyDeleteLove the journal/sketchbook, does it matter , it is yours to do with what youlike.... not had problems with pages sticking together, but a piece of tissue or silicone paper perhaps?

i would love to do an art journal but haven't gotten around to it. hmmm, for me, a journal doesn't need color, i think it becomes more of a journal when you use art and words to express yourself or something you feel or experience. a sketchbook can be just random drawings or doodles of anything you want to draw. happy WOYWW!
ReplyDeleteWax paper works great. Perhaps this is the same a silicone paper I don't know. You can do ANYTHING you want in your journal because you are all growed up now. ha ha. hugs, Donna
ReplyDeleteSorry hun dont or havent tried journalling yet so couldnt be sure what to use between pages.Have you tried wax paper?just a thought someone whom makes them regulary maybe of more help.Have fab woyww

I love the idea of journalling but never get round to it - more of a fabric girl myself! x Jo
ReplyDeleteI thin it's important not to completely finish everything in your journal - I think pencil line drawings can be the finest art. It's hard knowing when to stop sometimes! xx
ReplyDeleteI have à smash book. It is addiction to do and THE more mess you make THE better. Good lesson For those who are to precise like me.
ReplyDeleteGreetz, marjolein
What lovely crafting you have to show today.
ReplyDeleteA x
The spray seal would've been my suggestion, so I'm no help I'm afraid. I guess the whole sketchbook/journal thing is up to you...I don't really know the definition between them. But I do like these two pages very much!
ReplyDeleteYour journal and/or sketchbook is lovely and I'm not sure if it matters if you don't colour all the sketches. Variety might be what sets it apart from the rest. Can't help you about the sticky stuff but it looks like you have some amazing suggestions from everyone else. Thank you for the visit today :D
ReplyDeleteoh love the bowed head one, cool cheeky face!
ReplyDeletesticky or not, it looks good to me, and one thing, you'll never get your coffee cup muddled with your paint brush mag, will you! Happy WOYWW

Meni je sve prekrasno što ti napraviš!
ReplyDeleteLijep pozdrav:)
Journal or sketchbook - I don't think it matters, especially when it's looking as beautiful as yours!
ReplyDeleteI love the creativeness on your desk... but have to admit that I am totally in love with Ajda! *lol*
Have a wonderful WOYWW!
Love the book - I dont think it matters whether it is really finished or not as long as you are happy with it - yours looks great.
ReplyDeleteI still use cold wax to seal pages and they usually don't stick to each other. And it smells soooo nice. Well.. if I manage to finish a page :) for quite some time I'm only sketching :)
ReplyDeleteI have journal pages that like you I go back to them and finish or sometimes rework ~ Love your artwork ~ Love your Angels ~ Great job! namaste, Carol ^_^
ReplyDeleteThat spread is gorgeous ...have only dabbled in ???journal ??? so cant help with sticky pages . i assume they have not 100% dried because of several layers so I think i would try the wax paper....good luck
ReplyDeletei seal pretty much all of my round robin books with PYM ii.
ReplyDeleteyou have to order it online though :(
i order a bunch of it at once and then am a happy camper for awhile.
It will Not stick and it doesn't have a nasty odor. i mean, you still have to run it outside, but the smell goes away Really fast.
xx,

I have to confess I find it rather hard to art journal. I have no problem writing on my blog, but in my 'sketchbook' it's a whole different matter. The words don't seem to want to come. Mine is definitely sketchbook!
ReplyDeleteNever made a journal or done scrap booking either so not much help sorry there, Natasha May, do agree about not quite finishing things though do it all the time. Happy WOYWW Shaz in Oz.x
ReplyDeleteMy art journal is exactly like that and then I go back later and start finishing things. To stop pages sticking I use either Dorlands wax medium, or Turtlewax spray wax express shine. Both work well and no sticking.
ReplyDeleteI don't know if there's a difference between an art journal and a sketchbook. I think that a sketchbook is a bit more limited and used for exactly that, sketching, jotting down ideas etc. The "problem" is a journal can be whatever you want it to be. That being said, I rarely don't finish a page in my AJ and I have a sketchbook that is mostly empty, has less sturdy paper and I mostly use pencil and pen in it. My AJ gets all the color but since I use more matte mediums, the pages usually don't stick together. With gloss medium, they tend to do that more.
ReplyDeleteAlways intended to start an art journal but never have so can't help you at all. Your desk looks busy and colourful this week. Hope you have a lovely weekend. Elizabeth x #50
ReplyDeleteI love the look of your pages and would say that whatever you are happy with in your journal is how it should be. It's nice to have something that there isn't a right or wrong way to do.
ReplyDeleteI really envy artists who have colorful journal pages with pretty girls. I draw the girls, then never go back and color them in....so you are not alone. So my journal is just a sketchbook too, lol! So how do we make ourselves finish the pages??? I have no idea, other than to just do it!
ReplyDeleteI use matte medium on my pages and they do stick...not sure if there is anything else that would work better. Even when they are completely dry they still stick!
