This name kept popping up all over the Blogland lately. Artist named Flora Bowley. I went to check her out. Oh, I like her style. Everyone is taking her live workshops.
But Flora!
Why don't you have an on-line workshop for far away people like me?
Anyway. I was under her impression and got out my biggest canvas so far and started throwing paint at it.
Loved it!
Loved the not thinking.
Loved the faith in everything’s gonna be O.K.
Loved the texture.
Love the process itself.
Than I thought, what am I gonna put on this one?
No, not a whimsy girl.
Let’s go with a crow.
I’m sorry I don’t have a pic but I totally forgot. But believe me it was an outline of a crow. But then I got to thinking and I was all panicky that black bird on red background will associate too closely to nazi symbolism. I was not making that kinda statement.
So I painted a whimsy girl over it. It kind of coincided with the wing and out came an angel. :)
Than I found this abstract painter Peter Dranitsin. So I tried his technique on the angel’s dress.
Loved it!
Now, it clashes with the background.
Oh, let’s paint over it.
Brilliant idea!
Oh, wait.
Not so much.
This white did not come out as I planned. (second painting on the first photo)
Do over!
So here she is in all her glory. I might call her "Black angel". I'm still deciding about those blue squares on the left bottom. Canvas size is 50x70 cm. (19,5"x27,5")
Thanks for stopping by! :) Don't forget to visit the other participants of Pant Party Friday. But since Blogger has been down for maintenance since yesterday, PPF latest post is not up yet, so try again later.
And you still have time to enter my GIVEAWAY.

ReplyDeleteGorgeous painting ! I'll check her out, you made me curious ;-)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful angel Natasha! Love the colors too. Have a great weekend.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful angel- I LOVE her Crow's wing and I also LOVE hearing your process! It's nice to see other people change their work as they go too!
ReplyDeleteHappy PPF,
Stephanie
Thanks for sharing your step by step - I love hearing how others' art evolves. I haven't heard of those other artists so I'll go visit...
ReplyDeletenice work, i'd even just hang the background, great colour.
ReplyDeleteShe turned out GORGEOUS! I love seeing your process. And I love the texture, the colors and everything you've done here! Wonderful work! And you went BIG! Oh, that's something I want to do... you are an inspiration! ;)
ReplyDeleteShe is beautiful. I'd still like to see you paint a crow, too.
ReplyDeleteShe's gorgeous! The drips are lovely and her face is beautiful! And it's so great that you had such fun with the painting! I loved being able to see your progression, too!
ReplyDeleteI love your whimsy girls and this one is as beautiful as always!! I must go and look up this Flora lady as yours is the second blog this evening who has mentioned her! BTW - did you change your blog banner - it looks great - your dogs are beautiful!
ReplyDeleteHi Valerie! I love how your painting turned out, and seeing your process. I loved the edginess of your crow too! I wouldn't have associated the red and black and crow with anything Nazi. I love that you challenged yourself to go with it and just paint. There's something so liberating about not thinking when you're painting, isn't there? I haven't heard of the other two artists, but I will go check them out - thanks for posting!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your process. Next time keep the red and black; I wouldn't have associated it with Nazi unless there was some other thing along with it like a swastika or something. Happy PPF!
ReplyDeleteLook at you and your work here Natasha, so cool!! I love the process as you described(O:
ReplyDeleteIt's fun to see how this evolved!

She is lovely.. thanks for the sharing of the process of the painting..I have yet to try a big canvas.. will go check out the other artists that you mentioned.. have a lovely weekend..x
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun process Natasha! She's wonderful!
ReplyDeleteWhat great variations your painting has gone through! They are all lovely but I know how hard it is to get it just the way you want. I too liked the crow on red and wouldn't have thought of or known that symbolism.
ReplyDeleteAn angel that grew out of crow's wings....magical! Loved learning about your journey to this painting and of course caused me to be curious about those artists...will check them out later....thanks for the heads up.!
ReplyDeleteAnnabelle
I LOVE the evolution of this painting..and the contrast going on are brilliant...the strong black wing and drips against the bold red, with the gentile white hair and angelic face..then the circles and boxes. stunning! :)x
ReplyDeletei love how reading how you got the painting where it is at!! and it is one awesome painting also!
ReplyDeleteI found it interesting that you tell us what your were thinking and how this painting came about!! Patsy from

It is important to know how a work appears in the artist's mind ...Very good, un saludo
ReplyDeleteThis process you shared helps me for sure - we all go through the feelings and thoughts about only making art if it's sellable, or is perfect. Thanks for sharing and I TOTALLY agree about Flora - would LOVE to take a course but she's far far away ;-)
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely gorgeous x
ReplyDeleteAh Natasha, I was one of the lucky people on Flora's workshop last week. She is amazing. What an inspiration. Why not contact her to organise a workshop in Slovenia? You never know...
ReplyDeleteThis is really COOL
