Crossroads

Last Monday's post was a little prophetic. When I wrote it, little did I know that my heart will have to take a leap.

I find myself at crossroads. I needed my ass kicked to push myself out of my comfort zone. I wasn't satisfied with what I was doing for some time now but didn't have the guts to do anything about it. I hope this pushes me to the right direction. I really don't have any bad feelings as I probably should have. I guess I'm seeing it as a blessing.

The hardest thing now is to figure out what to do next. Or what to do in life in general. I would hate it to miss out on this opportunity and go back to something similar. I hope I don't give up on myself too soon.

I made this journal spread past weekend. Another omen I guess. I researched the meaning of a cat and a raven.

Cats themselves are quite resourceful and tend to give us messages of change, flexibility of adaptability. Often, when a cat makes an uncommon appearance in our lives it is a message for us to shake up our habitual routines and make some fresh changes in our lives, as well as be more flexible in our thinking.

The Raven is also a keeper of secrets, and can assist us in determining answers to our own “hidden” thoughts. Areas in our lives that we are unwilling to face, or secrets we keep that harm us – the Raven can help us expose the truth behind these (often distorted) secrets and wing us back to health and harmony.

Thanks for stopping by and taking the time to read "me". :) Have an awesome weekend! I know I'm looking forward to this Saturday. :)

And don't forget to give some love to the party people at Paint Party Friday, too.

  1. I was once taught by a mentor that if you are not feeling uncomfortable you are not doing anything outside your boundaries and you have stopped growing,

whilst there is nothing wrong with feeling comfortable, it is important not to stagnate,

best wishes on your change of direction, even if it brings you back to the same crossroad later the journey will have given you a new experience.

your journal pages are beautiful, your ladies do look apprehensive...

  2. I, too, have been feeling the need for more....for a change.....for a refreshening of sorts...

Is it this time of year? Is it our age? Whatever it is....I'm doing my best to embrace this need also...to try new things...to be unlike the self I'm used to.

I love your journal pages...and I think the mere fact that you are using Tam's techniques to help you express this time in your life (her course resonated with me, too) shows that you are not doing the same old thing :) I wanted to keep doing more and more pieces inspired by her course, but decided instead to dive into something different and come back to my favorites later. Can't wait to see what you do next :D

    Go for it..

  5. THese are gorgeous. Have you already explained your technique somewhere as I'm really intrigued as to how you create the texture and the scripted areas of these. I love the way they look almost vintage and aged.

What has happened that has given you the push to change things - has something changed in your job? I often feel the way you describe like I am so unsatisfied in my daily job but am too scared (especially in today's economic climate) to make the leap to try to make a career from my art and so i keep on doing the 9-5 and wishing i didn't have to waste time when I would rather be creating.

  7. It's kind of like when we go somewhere that we've never been before by ourselves--a little nervous, but in the end-----so glad we went. I'm glad that you are taking on a new journey and let us follow along with you.

  8. Very lovely and detailed journal page!

Synchronicity is the first thing that came to my mind when I read of your post. This is the time when you have to become quiet and pay attention to your environment. Look carefully and you'll see the things you need to see.

    Hope this helps. Cheers! ;)

  17. Your journal pages are gorgeous. Our true lives seem to be reflected in the artwork we produce. Maybe the cat and raven are trying to help you see something you would otherwise have just ignored. Hope you stay true to yourself and find the strength to do what is necessary.

  18. Your journal pages are great! Is this the new style emerging? It's lovely. I feel the same way, but don't know how to change or what to do. How did you break through? Thanks for explaining the symbolism. Happy PPF. :-)

  19. Your journal pages are great. I agree with Deanna, you will be fine. Cats, there have been four cats who lived with us. They are all now gone. They were Mother, daughter, granddaughter. Last year we lost our last cat and now we have our two family pet dog members left. Cats do peer into our eyes and sometimes even give us direction. Happy PPF!

  32. Hi Natasha, I think we all go through these sorts of feelings with our art. I constantly question my abilities and sometimes feel completely uninspired. But I find that stepping outside my comfort zone or trying a new technique really helps.
I've always been a massive fan of your art and have watched your style grow and evolve over the couple of years I've followed your blog and I love it. I really love this journal piece. Especially your red headed girl. She is very magical looking and seems to really pop off the page. Beautiful work and keep going with your art push through this feeling and you'll come out the other side even better for it! xoxoxox

  34. Beautiful, insightful, informative, perfectly inviting...I love the cat and the raven and what they symbolize, but especially that kitty with the chica...she reminds me of a younger version of ME. I'd love to put that up as my profile pic on FB if I could...but it's your art not mine. I do love it!!

  35. These journal pages are AMAZING!!!! Truly so rich and beautiful and full of life. I love how you tied in the symbolism of the animals in your work and how it relates to your life. Really just gorgeous! Theresa

  37. Great texture and meaning behind your journal pages...think you're onto something there!

  38. I find your journal pages to be SO inspiring, I love the layers of color and texture mixed with the writing to be so very beautiful. I also really enjoyed these paintings in particular because of what you wrote to go with them. Change is hard for anyone, but I think especially so for artists. It's so easy to get stuck in our comfort zones and continue making art that we know is good but no longer challenging- I've been trying to move out of my own comfort zone for the last year- so your words struck a deep note with me.
As for these paintings- my favorite is the one with the cat- because it seems to be saying the cat is king of the world, which of course they are! Beautiful work as always!
Happy PPF (a day late ;))
